Cow's milk substitute mother

Chinese scientists have received from the transgenic cows milk, similar to breast milk by women.

Scientists were able to introduce human genes into the DNA of embryos dairy breeds. Adult cows were giving milk, which by its characteristics was virtually identical to breast milk.
One of the principal differences between breast milk from the cow - the protein content. In cow's milk it is much larger (3.2%) than in women (1 - 1,2%). High protein content in cow's milk allows the calves to grow rapidly and gain weight. In the natural habitat for ungulates is a matter of survival - babies should not lag behind the herd, lest they become easy prey for predators. The composition of breast milk meets the needs of human babies.
In milk, which received a Chinese scientists from the Central State Laboratory agrobiotehnologicheskoy China Agricultural University, contains high concentrations of the protein lysozyme. In human milk lysozyme is much greater than in the cow. Lysozyme - an antibacterial enzyme that destroys the walls of pathogenic bacteria. Thanks to him, infants are protected from bacterial infections in the first months of life. Also Chinese milk cows is rich in lactoferrin, which is the basis of innate immunity. The third important component of the genetically-modified milk - alpha-lactalbumin. According to some studies, this protein may be effective in brbe cancer cells. Its active form, scientists have named HAMLET - by «human alpha-lactalbumin made lethal to tumors».
During the experiment, transgenic cows brought to offspring. But more than half of newborn calves did not survive. Scientists believe that the quality of milk is irrelevant, the problem is still imperfect technologies of cloning.
The Chinese cow is not the first "swallow" in this area. A few years ago in the U.S., and then within the Russian-Belarusian project "BelTransGen in Shakhovskoi region of Moscow received a flock of transgenic goats to produce an analog of breast milk. Goat's milk is less allergenic than cow. But to commercialize it has not yet reached.
Ning Li, senior author believes that the transgenic cow's milk in 10 years may go on sale. Scientists also hope that over time, transgenic cows will give milk, which can drink without fear of babies of Asian countries that do not digest lactose.
The researchers claim that their product is perfectly safe, and in taste even better than human milk.
