Spanish android launched into commercial operation

Company from Barcelona announced that the results of seven years of research is ready to bring to market robots with human growth - a machine that autonomously performs service functions.

Work has already begun production of two dozen androids that a customer orders from the Middle East.
Growth robot REEM from the company PAL Robotics is 1.65 m, weight - 90 kilos. Featuring 22 degrees of freedom, REEM rides on four wheels with hidden speed of 4 km / h. Knowing about the possible precursor "Rome", one of the parameters of new items is simply impossible to believe, but the Spaniards say that the battery android enough already for 8 hours of battery life!
Behind: "Rome" has a small cargo bed. In the trunk of the robot carries up to 30 kilos. Each hand holds an android weight of 3 kg (photo PAL Robotics).
The robot is equipped with an accelerometer, gyroscope, ultrasonic sensors, laser rangefinder, stereokameroy and other sensors. The creators say they have had autonomous navigation systems, facial recognition and touch screen. The latter, apparently, is the only input device.

As the Plastic Pals, REEM potentially be used in hotels, museums, shopping malls, airports, hospitals and other places where a person can be useful guides and servants. On the value of "Rome" is not known, but at the price of this robot is probably comparable to an expensive car.
Incidentally, the launch of the first commercial product the company PAL Robotics coincided with the network premiere of a short film Blinky Irish filmmaker Rory Robinson (Ruairi Robinson). The author has his belt, not too original vision of the future service robots that are included in the daily lives of humans.
